sodopp

sodopp is an all-girl garage rock trio. Channeling spirits from Shonen Knife and noodles, the band has intentionally rough edges and strong melodies, and their no-nonsense attitude shines through.


sodopp was originally formed in Kagoshima in 1999. After a member change, it became the current band members in the autumn of 2000, which are Satoko Kojima (vocals, guitar), Ayano Yamashita (bass, vocals), and Seina Yoshimori (drums, vocals). In 2002, sodopp won 2nd place at the “teens’ festival” of Southern Kyushu. The band began to build their musical career as opening for POLYSICS, touring Kyushu extensively and organizing their own gigs, which lead to sign Spice Records in 2006. sodopp made their debut with the album POP RIDER and earned heavy airplay on FM Kagoshima, a very rare support for newcomers. Although this album was released only in Kagoshima, it sold more than 1,000 copies within a month. Its big sales spread the release area to Kyushu and Okinawa, then throughout Japan in August of 2007 and had an enormous impact on girls band fans.

In March of 2008, sodopp went on to play at SXSW (Austin, Texas, USA) as the official Japan Nite band along with avengers in Sci-Fi and detroit7 from Japan. The audience went crazy as sodopp appeared in the US for the first time. sodopp’s SXSW show was a total success. After going back to Japan, sodopp performed at “Sotsu-Fes. 2008”, the Universal Studios Japan seventh anniversary special live (other guests: Ai Otsuka, Chatmonchy, FUNKY MONKEY BABYS, GO!GO!7188, Aqua Timez).
